Staff Orientation and Workshop 2025-2026

27th May 2025

The staff of New Millennium School were all set for the new academic year with a fun filled and thought-provoking Staff Orientation and Workshop conducted by experienced academician Mrs. Phyllis Farias.

The session began with a reflective story of a farmer who shared his best corn seeds in the neighbourhood. The staff shared their thoughts on the story.

Next was an exciting team activity which consisted of stacking paper cups in a pyramid format using only thread and rubber bands. The teams tried their best to stack the cups using different strategies. This activity highlighted that ‘Group work produces good results.’

Another reflective story ‘Put the little chain on me’ was narrated by Mrs. Farias. She highlighted how we should accept and face challenges, cooperate, work smart, be vigilant, collaborate and observe to achieve our goals.

The session ended with another story called Ubuntu which means ‘I am because we are.’ It tells us that human generosity and compassion define our existence and that everyone is linked. The workshop was fruitful and fulfilling to all the staff.

Staff Orientation

The staff of New Millennium School welcomed academician Mrs. Phyllis Farias for the Staff Orientation and Workshop for the academic year 2024-2025.

The session started with a reflective story titled ‘Building a Temple’. The teachers gave feedback on what they thought and felt about the story.

The topic highlighted for the day was ‘values’ - what is the state of values in the present times? Is there a value crisis or conflict? What are the consequences of choosing undesirable values? What should educators do to inculcate values?

The importance of value clarification was discussed highlighting Mr. Louis Raths, an educator and writer known for developing "Values Clarification," a process designed to help individuals—particularly students—identify and define their own values through free choice, reflection, and action rather than indoctrination in his book Values and Teaching: Working with Values in the Classroom (1966).

Overall, the workshop was rejuvenating and thought provoking.
